Hello students! My name is Sonja Humphries and I am your teacher librarian for The Jerome High School Evelyn Crowder Memorial Library. I earned my Bachelor’s (B.S.) in Elementary Education K-8 and hold a Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from the University of North Texas, with an endorsement as a teacher librarian through Idaho State University (ISU), and supplemental supporting courses through College of Southern Idaho (CSI). I am the adviser for the campus National Honor Society, a Committee Chair for the school leadership team, and a mentor for school librarians through the Idaho Commission For Libraries (ICL). In my spare time, I love to hike with my husband of 39 years, care for and ride my two horses and play with my 12 grandchildren. Family is extremely important to me and I believe in maintaining a healthy work, home and family life balance.
Being here is a great pleasure, and I enjoy providing library services for the school. Inside these collections, you will find many resources related to your courses, as well as fun popular titles to share with your friends and family. This library was created for your benefit, and is here as a place where you could learn, study, read, play games, use technology and socialize with your friends.
For 11 years I have served as the campus certified teacher librarian. My career did not start in libraries though. I earned my first higher education degree when I was 32 years old. Before this, I worked in cosmetology. As a cosmetologist, I had the fortunate opportunity to meet Ms. Crowder as one of my clients. I remember her as a nice, kind and driven woman with lots of stories. Today, I am so grateful to be able to carry on her legacy.
